Squash

On 4/29, Squash was scooped up out of a yard in Bensenville.  He had been laying around several yards and residents were concerned.  He went to Glen Ellyn that day and received an exam, snap test (negative!), Convenia (long-acting antibiotic), blood draw, nail trim, so MUCH – check out the picture of him at the vet and thru it all, making happy paws.  14 years old, weighing 5.66 lbs, right eye ulcer, ears filled with gunk, upper respiratory?  His blood panel came back pretty good overall, and he was FIV negative!  Re-check on 5/17 included x-ray to rule out nasal polyp, discovered a punctured ear drum, continued care with additional antibiotics, fluids, ear flushes as he continued to improve.  On 6/2, ear drum much better, other symptoms improving, gaining weight to 8.7lbs!  He was taken to the 6/2 appointment by his new foster, went home with her afterwards.  In July, the foster and her husband decided they could not part with Squash a.k.a. Murphy and adopted him.  He is one happy boy!

Squash was part of a colony that was TNR’d in November of 2008.  He clearly had pretty good care all these years and only recently, due to age and probably loss of dedicated caretaker, fell on harder times.  Amazing that he did so well!  It is very rewarding that we had the resources to be able to provide care for Squash, making such a difference in his life!  Our thanks to our donors, our vets and our fabulous volunteers who care for all of the cats we encounter!
