Feral Fixers brought in 34 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic today to be fixed.
27 of them were friendly ferals while the other 7 were true ferals. Trapping of ferals has abated a bit recently due to the extreme heat - but it will pick up again soon. In the meantime, the number of friendly ferals needing surgery had started to build up, so we wound up with a big load.
Super-volunteer Jennifer helped bring cats from Tammy's to PAWS this morning (thanks Jennifer!) and super-volunteer Charli helped bring cats from PAWS back to Tammy's this evening (thanks Charli). And, as usual, super-volunteer Judy was at Tammy's both this morning and this evening helping to load/unload, prepare, etc. Thanks Judy!
Jennifer and I also received some unexpected help this morning unloading our cars at PAWS and bringing the cats inside. PAWS is now partnering with a rescue organization from Oklahoma. For the past few weeks, they have been bringing in van-loads of dogs and puppies from various needy situations in Oklahoma to PAWS to be spayed/neutered. Obviously this cannot be a permanent solution for them - it's a long way to Oklahoma - but this helps give this organization some credibility and will perhaps help them get a local spay/neuter facility built in the future.
Anyway, Jennifer and I arrived just before the Oklahoma caravan did and PAWS needed to get to work on those dogs just as soon as they arrived. This means they needed us out of the way - cats unloaded and brought into PAWS - so we had an army of PAWS volunteers helping us unload our cars. Took about 2 minutes and I carried a grand total of ONE CAT from my car into PAWS this morning. Thanks PAWS!
All 34 cats received spay/neuter surgery. Usually with a load this big, you find one or maybe two either too ill or with other problems and not ready for surgery or you'll find one or two cats that have already been fixed (but not eartipped). But everyone in this load needed surgery.
So with these 34, Feral Fixers has processed 74 cats for June, 370 for the year and 3,875 overall.
