Today Feral Fixers brought another 34 cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. 20 of these cats were ferals while 14 were friendly ferals.
I picked up the cats from Tammy's this morning and brought them to PAWS and then picked them up from PAWS in the afternoon and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery. Once again, we have to thank super-volunteer Sue for the use of her van so that we could bring in such a large load (Thanks Sue!). Super-volunteer Judy was at Tammy's both this morning and this afternoon to help out and super-volunteer Mary came by in the afternoon to pick up some of the cats that she is personally fostering and to pick up some cats for others that are fostering (Thanks Judy! Thanks Mary!).
The ride in was a bit stressful. The van was full, full, full - I had to squeeze a couple of the carriers to get them to fit into the van. I must have squeezed one a bit too much because as I was just getting onto the expressway, I saw the head of one of the kittens peer around the front passenger seat - she had escaped from the carrier! I called Judy who recommended that I proceed to PAWS and, once I was there, to get someone to help me unload. I was lucky as, as I parked in the lot behind PAWS, Maryann and Debbie from RRR pulled up also with the cats they had brought in. I explained my plight to them and they helped me unload enough of the car until I was able to find the kitten. She was fine, not freaked out, and was easy enough to pick up and put into a new carrier that PAWS had loaned me. She was fine but I was stressed - thanks Debbie and Maryann!
One of the ferals had turned to be already neutered, so we fixed "only" 33 cats today. This brings us to a total of 57 for the month of October, 752 for the year and 3,233 overall.
Don't forget - Celebrate 3000! is this coming Sunday - see you there!
