I was out-of-town for a couple of days earlier this week, but those inconsiderate feral cats just kept insisting on spay/neuter surgery...
So, this past Tuesday, super-volunteer Mary took in 10 cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic while the new super-volunteer tag team of Dale & Arlie picked them up and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery. Thanks Mary! Thanks Dale & Arlie! One of the cats had a 'friable uterus'; as they were spaying her, the uterus literally broke and they had to give her a larger incision to complete the surgery. This cat will be kept for a couple of extra days of recovery time before being released back to the outdoors. Incidentally, on that Tuesday, PAWS set a new, internal record of 124 surgeries in a single-day. It's all about the numbers and this is why PAWS is on track to do 17,000 spay/neuter surgeries this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again - we couldn't do what we do without them - Thank You PAWS!
And then on Wednesday, super-volunteer Danielle took in 12 cats to PAWS and super-volunteer Mary picked them up and brought them back to Tammy's. Thanks Danielle! Thanks Mary! These cats originated from Villa Park, Hanover Park, Wood Dale, Bartlett and Northlake. Tammy reports that two of the cats, large males named Froggy and Nightmare, 'serenaded' her for 3 hours as she was in the garage Tuesday night, preparing them for their trip in on Wednesday, certain that nothing good could come out of this...
And finally today, Thursday, I brought in 23 cats (19 ferals and 4 friendly ferals) to PAWS and then picked them up and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery. In order to accommodate such a large number of cats, we had to once again borrow super-volunteer Sue's van. Thank you Sue!
So, we've had a busy week (and it's not over yet!) - 45 cats in all. With these first 45 cats of October, Feral Fixers has now TNR'd 716 cats this year and 2,195 overall.
