We did our first batch of cats for the "Merry, merry month of May" today - an even dozen. Super-volunteer Mary drove them in to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic this morning (Thanks Mary!) while I picked them up and drove them back to Tammy's for recovery.
Six were male and six were female and some of those males were VERY STINKY - fully open windows again...
These 12 cats came from 9 communities; Bolingbrook, Berwyn, Hanover Park, Bartlett, Glendale Heights, Keeneyville, Lombard, Downers Grove and Addison. They're everywhere!
In addition to picking up cats, I dropped off old newspapers that Tammy has been collecting. PAWS uses these to line the feral cat cages, replacing the old newspaper already in there. Most of these newspapers came from Kelly (Thanks Kelly!) - and she brings the 'good' kind; full size pages and no clay-coated flyers. And, in addition to dropping off newspapers, I also dropped off the Avid microchip 'ownership change forms' that we receive when we order the microchips. We don't use these ourselves as no one really 'owns' these ferals - and we keep records of which colonies the cats are in. PAWS can use these to hand out to owners of pets that they get spayed/neutered at their clinic.
With these first 12 cats of May, Feral Fixers has now processed 267 cats so far this year and 1,746 since we began work in September of 2007.
