Despite a torrential downpour at the start of the event, which soaked some of our fosters and their kittens, we had a successful first adoption event of 2021 at our building on Saturday, 6/26.

3 adult cats (Ferris, Misty & Roxbury) and 11 kittens (Rollie, Rocco, Wallace, Roxanne, Rococco, Roma, Rockabye Baby, Rosie, Rock Star, Tristan & Tripoli) were the stars of our show.  Everyone did very well interacting with our guests.  Wallace was a bit too antsy to hang out in his crate, so he spent the time meeting guests in a get-acquainted room.

We had a number of guests and potential adopters come to meet our cats & kittens including a few prior adopters.  3 kittens were adopted by pre-approved adopters at the event:

  • Roxanne was adopted by a very nice gal in New Lennox.  She will have a 4 yr old male cat to keep her company.
  • Tripoli was adopted by a terrific gal in Montgomery who had recently lost her senior cat and was looking for a companion for the cat she adopted from Feral Fixers in 2014.
  • Rococco was adopted by a great family in Wheaton who had recently lost their senior dog-loving cat and were looking for another cat to become friends with their Shih Tzu and Mini Schnauzer.  While it was not love at first sight, Rococco and the dogs handled the situation well, likely due to Rococco's exposure to dogs in his foster home.
  • Rockabye Baby also stole the heart of a nice couple from Addison who stopped by our event.  They completed an application, which was later approved, and the adoption is scheduled.

Jane Charmelo of the Lombardian newspaper visited our event, had a tour of the building, met with several of our cats & kittens and took some great photos.  She will be publishing the article shortly in the Lombardian newspaper.

As adoptions ramped up again with the kittens we rescued this spring, we closed out the month of June with 33 adoptions, giving us a total of 102 adoptions in 2021 so far.  We have many more wonderful kittens who will be spayed/neutered in the upcoming weeks and hope to keep this adoption momentum going.

Many thanks to the fosters (Cheri, Aimee, Bethany, Diana, Laura & Mirian) and the volunteers (Sarah, Steve, Candy, Trista & Vicki) who made this event possible.  We are just getting into the groove of adoption events at the building so everyone's patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we fine-tune our process.  Special thanks to Candy and Sarah for coming on Friday evening to help with the preliminary set-up and building clean-up.

We will be participating in the PetSmart National Adoption Week with an adoption event on Saturday, 7/24, at the Wheaton PetSmart (63 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton) from 11am-3pm.

We are also considering another adoption event on Saturday, 7/10, at our building, pending fosters' and volunteers' availability given the upcoming holiday.  Please stay tuned for details.

Thanks,

Sue
