What a busy weekend it has been! In celebration of National Feral Cat Day (October 16th), we had two adoption events this weekend. One on Saturday, 10/15, at the PetSmart at 63 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton, and another on Sunday, 10/16, at the Pet Supplies Plus at 720 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville.
We had a wonderful collection of cats and kittens at both events. 14 kittens (Scrumptious, Scrabble, Scuba, Schnapps, Bella, PawPaw, Bali, Beaver, Amber, Blue, Amory, Creole, Honeydew, Papaya) and 3 adults (Cheyenne, Dory, Victor) attended the event on Saturday. 9 kittens (Harry, Hastings, Saki, Casino, Beau, ChaCha, Christos, Chika, Leia) and 3 adults (Rueland, Pinto, Luther) attended the event on Sunday. Everyone did very well - even those who were first timers at an adoption event!
We were at a new location in the PetSmart store - along the center aisle, but at the back of the store. Fortunately, we still got pretty good foot traffic and gave out a number of business cards. The kittens also got some dog exposure, as we were right on the path to the grooming salon! We had one adoption at the event on Saturday, another adoption to a pre-approved adopter which will happen later this week, and another potential adopter who completed an application.
- Blue went home with wonderful, recently married couple from Lombard. He will be their first furry child. They are planning to adopt a puppy to be his companion.
- Amory will be going home later this week with a nice couple from Westmont, once he has received his final vaccinations.
- A gal completed an application at the event, and has expressed interest in arranging a visit with Cheyenne in her foster home.
Sunday was a bit quieter at the Pet Supplies Plus in Naperville, probably due to the Bears game. We still had a number of guests visit with our cats & kittens.
Luther was at the front of his cage meowing and attracted a good amount of attention. A young man expressed interest in Luther as a companion for his very active 11 yr old Bengal mix male cat. Debbie thought the two of them would hit is off well. I am following up.
Another pre-approved adopter came to meet ChaCha with her pit bull mix puppy. Although the puppy was quite energetic and talkative, ChaCha did not seem to mind a bit and cuddled nicely in the potential adopters arms. We are scheduling a follow-up visit in the foster home and discussing Channing as a possible companion for ChaCha.
So, all in all, a good weekend with good opportunities for us to spread our message about TNR and give our adoptable cats & kittens more social interaction time. Fiona, our animatronic cat, was sporting her Pumpkin hat at both events - in honor of the upcoming holiday!
Many thanks to the volunteers and fosters who made the events this weekend a success, particularly those who helped out both days! We had two new volunteers on Saturday - Christine and Jenna - many thanks to you, and I hope you will join us again! Thanks also to Lauren, Debbie, Laurel, Sara and Bernie for working around your schedules and being there as much as you could on both Saturday and Sunday. We all deserve a rest!
Many thanks also to the fosters who adjusted their schedules to bring their cats and kittens to this two day event and promote their kittens during the event, specifically Jan, Diane, Peggy, Christine, Laura, Marissa's parents, Marjorie, Nikki, Karen, Candy, Debbie, and Jeremy. Your participation was key to a successful event! Special thanks also to Nikki and Debbie for transporting other foster's kittens to the Sunday event.
Thanks also to Candy for handling the photography and videography for Sunday event, to Laurel and Sara for handling the photography at the Saturday event, to Connie and Ted for doing a great job of promoting the event, to Mike for updating the Adoptable Cats & Kittens binder and to Debbie for updating the Adoptable Cats & Kittens board. Thanks to Lauren for creating the cage cards in advance for both days.
Our next adoption event is Saturday, 10/29, at the PetSmart at 63 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton, 11am-3pm. With Halloween just around the corner, costumes are welcome!
