Feral Fixers brought in 23 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic today to be fixed. 17 of these cats were ferals while the other 6 were friendly ferals.
Super-volunteer Charli helped me pick up the cats this morning from Tammy's and bring them to PAWS (Thanks Charli!) while I did a solo trip this afternoon to PAWS to pick them up and bring them back to Tammy's for recovery and distribution. Riding with me this morning was also new volunteer Jenny - getting a taste of what Transport is like - Thanks Jenny!
9 of these cats were males while the other 14 were females. One of the friendlies was deemed not healthy enough for surgery so we wound up having 22 cats done this day.
The trip back from PAWS was pretty uneventful until about the last 8-10 minutes or so. That's when the 'lovely smell' of cat poop began to pervade my SUV. I remember rolling down the windows a bit more (can't roll them down too much or the towels that we have covering the traps will go flying away) and being grateful that I was pretty close to Tammy's. Later this evening, just as I was getting ready to write this post, I received a short email from Tammy saying "Found the cat that you said had pooped. She also gifted us with a tapeworm that I bet would stretch to about 6 feet if we had the interest in doing so. The injectable dewormer that they give at PAWS can sometimes work reaaallllllly fast!
Just as glad as I didn't see it - the smell was bad enough...
With these 22 cats, Feral Fixers has now processed 76 cats for May, 309 cats for the year and 7,587 overall.
