Feral Fixers brought in 12 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic today to be fixed. Five of these cats were ferals while the other seven were friendly ferals and, it was an even half-dozen of each; males and females.
Super-volunteer Heather helped me both ways today; picking up the cats at Tammy's this morning and bringing them to PAWS and then picking up the cats at PAWS this afternoon and bringing them back to Tammy's for recovery and distribution - Thanks Heather!
Had a couple of special notes on the cats today. The tail on one of the ferals looked a bit funky, so we had the vets at PAWS check it out. They found an abscess at the base of the tail which they clipped, drained and cleaned and then gave the cat a shot of Convenia (a long-lasting antibiotic). And, the paws on another cat looked bloody, so we asked the vets to look at that too. They checked each of the nails to see if there were any issues / getting pulled out - no problems there - but found some of the pads raw, probably made so in an attempt to get out of the trap. The PAWS vets cleaned the cats paws and then soaked them in some anti-biotic cleaning solution to forestall any problems down the road. Just another day in the life of the rock-star vets at PAWS - have I said how much I love and admire them lately? I do!
Anyway, with these 12 cats, Feral Fixers has now processed 54 cats for May, 287 cats for the year and 7,565 overall.
