Feral Fixers brought in five more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic this past Sunday. All five of them were ferals; one adult and four kittens.
Super-volunteer Jennifer picked up the cats from Tammy's on Sunday morning and brought them to PAWS (Thanks Jennifer!) while super-volunteers Judy and Rita picked up the cats from PAWS and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery (Thanks Judy! Thanks Rita!)
One of the kittens, Vista, was very 'touch and go' after the surgery - evidently she had a bad reaction to one or more of the drugs (probably the anaesthetic) and refused to wake up. Judy and Rita stayed with her at PAWS (along with some of the PAWS techs) until 7:00pm Sunday evening! They finally brought her back to Tammy's and Tammy reports today;
They (Judy, Rita and some of the PAWS techs) stayed two full hours late as techs tried to wake up a kitten and only left because I told them to. Rita held Vista, the kitten, the whole trip back and two hours after that Vista was finally alert enough to eat and act normally.
Luckily, only rarely are cats sensitive to the sedation and if they can keep going it eventually gets out of their system, but it can be touch and go for awhile.
Our enormous thanks to the staff at PAWS, they really do care and try everything in their power to help these cats!
And Vista may not be fully invested in the whole tame thing yet but I think I heard a couple of seconds of purring today!
So, a happy ending here. Thanks PAWS! Thanks again Rita and Judy! And thanks, of course, to Tammy...
With these five cats, Feral Fixers has now TNR'd 109 cats for the month, 546 for the year and 3,027 overall.
