This past weekend, Feral Fixers hosted a booth at the annual Shred4Rescues event held by Citadel Information Management. Feral Fixers Board Member and Adoption coordinator Sue gives us the details:

On Saturday, 6/20, Feral Fixers participated in the Citadel's annual Shred 4 Rescues event at their facility in Westmont. It was a lovely day for the event - nice & cool and not even any rain! Four other rescues participated in the event including Hinsdale Humane Society, Wags 2 Wishes, West Suburban Humane Society, and AaRoooo Basset Hound Rescue, who brought a few of their adoptable dogs. There was face painting & removable tattoos for the kids as well as a food truck with the yummiest muffins/cupcakes!

The Citadel celebrated their 30th anniversary at this event. There was a formal ribbon cutting ceremony with participation from Citadel owners, Paul Swenson and Donna Cooper, as well as special appearances by members of the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Village of Westmont Board. All of the participating rescues were also invited to participate in the photo shoot commemorating the event.

Freddie, a handsome gray tabby & white 1 year old boy, was the star of the Feral Fixers tent. He did a remarkable job handling the event, greeting all of the guests that came to visit him, playing with his toys, chirping with happiness and even tolerating the pokes of the toddlers that wanted to reach in and touch him. He will make a remarkable pet for any home! We also had the poster and binder of our adoptable cats (thanks, Mike!) as well as plenty of info to share and some Feral Fixers merchandise (T-shirts, tote bags & magnets) to sell.

Traffic at the booth was pretty good - better than in prior years, although the number of shred customers seemed to be a bit fewer - perhaps due to the nearby road construction. We had many folks stop by to view our adoptable cats & kittens, who were interested in either fostering or adopting and took information to contact us later. There were also a few folks interested in TNR help. We also received a few generous donations. All in all - a great day!

Many thanks to all of the volunteers that made the day successful, including Debbie, Lauren, Laurel, Bernie and Maureen. You all made it a very fun event :-) Special thanks to Debbie & Lauren for being there early to help set up the tent - the most physically challenging activity of the day! Thanks also to Tammy for stopping by to show her support.

Thanks Sue and thank you to everyone who helped out!
