On Tuesday, to commemorate HSUS's World Spay Day, Feral Fixers brought in 10 cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. Seven of these cats were ferals while the other three were 'friendly ferals'.

I picked up the cats from Tammy's in the morning and brought them to PAWS and then picked them up in the afternoon from PAWS and brought them back to Tammy's for recovery. As always, super-volunteer Judy was there in the morning and afternoon to help out - thanks Judy!

We had wanted to do many more than 10 cats on this date - and PAWS had given us the OK to bring in up to 50. But mainly due to these late snows and cold weather, 10 cats were all we were able to manage. That turned out to be a good thing. Normally PAWS schedules more surgeries than they would want to handle on any specific day. This is because many people just don't show up for their appointments unfortunately. So PAWS is always doing this balancing act of scheduling. On this day however, EVERYONE who had made an appointment brought in their pet for surgery and PAWS wound up doing 90 surgeries on Tuesday. It's a good thing we didn't bring in 50 cats that day or I might still be there!

With these 10 cats, PAWS finishes up February with 20 cats for the month, 55 for the year and 4,791 overall.
