What a windy day it was on Sunday, 2/24, for our adoption event at the Wheaton PetSmart! Fortunately, no cats, kittens or volunteers were blown away :-) We did not dare put our sign outside if we wanted to see it again!

The chilly breezes permeated the store a bit, but our cats and kittens stayed safe and reasonably warm in their crates. 5 kittens (Irish, Cowboy & Corazon, Constance & Cotton) and 2 adult cats (Chloe, George) were the stars of our show.

1 adoption occurred during the event to a pre-approved adopter - a nice couple from Glendale Heights who had just lost their beloved cat of 20 years. They had a hard time choosing between Cowboy and Corazon, Irish, and Chloe. Ultimately, Chloe won their heart. She will be happy to be their one and only girl.

We also received applications at the event and via email for Irish and Constance & Cotton, which are under review. Many other folks stopped by to pet and admire our cats & kittens.

Several additional adoptions occurred since and as a result of our last event two weeks ago:

  • Topper was adopted by the family from Streamwood, who had visited him at both the 1/26 and 2/9 adoption events. Reports are that he is a good buddy for their young daughter and has been accepted by their resident female cat :-)
  • Petey was adopted by the family from Wheaton, who met him at the 2/9 event. Their dog accepted Petey without issue, and Petey is enjoying the company of their children and resident male cat.
  • Jasper found a home with a terrific young couple in Lombard. They have a 10 mo old Australian Cattle dog. Jasper and the dog did fine together, and the couple was very excited to welcome Jasper to their home.
  • Merlin won the heart of a wonderful family in New Lenox. They have nice quiet home with adult children and no other pets, so Merlin can be the king! He had been pulled down from PetFinder for awhile because an abscess from an old bite wound on his front paw had burst. Fortunately, it was treated and is healing nicely, so he is well on the road to good health in his new home.

Many thanks to the volunteers and fosters who made this event a success (Sara, Steve, Candy, Laura B, Marilyn, Jeff, Erika, Lauren). We are an experienced and efficient team! With fewer cats & kittens, things were a little less hectic, so we all had more time to interact with each other and the cats.

Many thanks also for all of the other valuable contributions to this event - to Candy for the excellent photography & videography during the event; to Connie, Stephanie and Ted for promoting the event on our Facebook page and web site; to Steve for the professional-looking cage cards; to Debbie and Mike for the on-going updates to the Adoptable Cats & Kittens board and binder; to Sara for helping with adoption counseling, adoption paperwork and the laundry; to Steve for entering a stack of adoptions into the PetSmart iPad; to Sara/Steve for coordinating our lunch run.

We have 2 adoption events scheduled for March:

  • Saturday, 3/9, at the Pet Supplies Plus at 720 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville, from 11am-3pm
  • Saturday, 3/23, at the PetSmart at 63 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton, from 11am-3pm - Jessica, the PetSmart store manager, negotiated a Saturday for us!

Thanks,

Sue
