It was an interesting day weather-wise during our adoption at the Wheaton PetSmart on Saturday, 10/20. We watched a severe wind/snow storm roll into the area in the middle of the event, bending the trees sideways and blowing our A-frame sign across the parking lot (thanks to Bernie & Steve for retrieving it)! The weather calmed down by the time the event was over, but the temperature had dropped ~20 degrees - brrrrr!

Fortunately, the inclement weather did not keep our pre-approved and potential adopters away. It was a busy and productive day of meet 'n greets and adoptions. We were visited by 5 pre-approved adopters and a number other potential adopters.

22 kittens (Alonzo, Baxter, Breezy, Bruce, Duke, Yori, Neroli, Cabaret, Johanna, Jolli, Waves, Wazoo, Onion, York, Juliet, Ra, Sirius, Harry, Winette, Winkie, Moonbeam, Memphis) and 2 adult cats (Topaz, Hodges) were the stars of our show. Everyone did a great jog of engaging with our guests.

The 5 pre-approved adopters resulted in 6 kitten adoptions, 4 of whom went home directly from the event, and 2 will go home this week. Juliet and Ra were the choice of a terrific couple from Warrenville. They just got married, returned from their honeymoon and wanted to start their furry family. They took the kittens home on Saturday.

  • Cabaret won the heart of a man from Glendale Heights who had recently lost his 16 yr old cat. He will be picking her up on Wednesday.
  • Johanna was the pick of a wonderful couple from Franklin Heights. They had visited us at the 10/6 adoption event at the Pet Supplies Plus in Villa Park as well. They were looking for an active, playful kitten who will interact well with their male kitten and 2 dogs. We hope Johanna will work out well for them. She joined their family on Tuesday.
  • Jolli melted in the arms of the daughters and son of a great family from Naperville. She will have 2 dogs to keep her company, but I expect the humans in the family will give her all of the attention she needs. They took Jolli home on Saturday.
  • Harry was the choice of a nice couple from Carol Stream. They recently purchased their townhome and wanted a furry companion to keep them company. Harry went home with them on Saturday.

We also accepted 2 applications and distributed a number of business cards.

Hodges, our recently posted 6 yr old white male cat, was a hit at the event. He is such a friendly boy! Several folks asked about him and one couple submitted an application for him. Unfortunately, the gal has cat allergies and decided Hodges caused too much of a reaction. She has offered to pay his adoption fee to try to promote his adoption!

While adoptions between events were slow at the end of September and early October, they have begun to pick up. 11 kittens (Carlton, Alejandro, Ricky, Mischief, Circuit, Sally Ann, Edie, Rickshaw, Joanie, Gilbert & Garbo) and 2 adult cats (Selena, Charms) were adopted since our 10/6 event. Carlton and Alejandro were adopted by folks who met them at our 10/6 adoption event. Selena and Charms were long time residents of our Cat Depot (aka Jeff's garage). It was great to see them go to loving homes!

Lots of good news to celebrate :-)

Many thanks to the volunteers and fosters who made this event a success (Sara, Steve, Bernie, Bonnie, Candy, Diane, Joanie, Sarah, Laura B, Marilyn, Marisa, Gillian). We have another adoption event next Saturday, 10/27, at Pet Supplies Plus at 720 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville, from 11am-3pm. Then we have one weekend off. The weekend following that is the final PetSmart National Adoption Weekend of the year. We will have our adoption event on Sunday, 11/11, at the PetSmart at 63 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton from 11am-3pm.

Let's hope for more continued success!!

Sue
