Although it started out rather wet, the 2018 Shred4Rescues event on Saturday, 6/9, at Citadel Information Management in Westmont ended on a high note with sunshine, a high volume of cars bringing paper for shredding, a good number of visitors to our tent, and several potential adoptions.

Arriving bright and early per instructions, Bridget, Debbie, Laurel and I spent the first hour sitting in Laurel's car watching the rain come down and eating some breakfast. Finally, by 8:30am, the rain slowed a bit and several other groups starting setting up their tents, so we thought we better get moving so we did not lose our spot. Candy joined us by that point - she came at just the right time! Sporting our rain gear, we got everything set up by 9am, so we were ready in plenty of time.

I gave Laura, Lawrence's foster mom, the heads up that it was a go at that point, and she headed over with Lawrence, arriving around 9:45am. He was the only kitty star of our show, and he did a fabulous job, rolling over and purring for each guest who petted him smile

Fortunately, the rain did not deter the folks coming to bring their paper for shredding. There was a line-up of cars starting at 8:45am, and a continuous steady flow right up until 1pm. A very successful event!

7 organizations had tents at the event, including Hinsdale Humane Society, Aarooo Basset Hound Rescue, Magnificent Mutts & Meows, West Suburban Humane Society, Feral Fixers, West Suburban Veterinary Associates, and St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines. Aarooo, Magnificent Mutts and West Suburban Humane Society all had several adorable dogs available for adoption. St. Sophia's had a sweet cat and kittens, and we had Lawrence, as well as our board and binder of all of the adoptable cats & kittens.

Foot traffic among the tents was light for the first couple of hours as the rain continued. But by 11am, the rain finally broke, and we started to get a good number of visitors. Everyone loved meeting Lawrence and enjoyed hearing about our other available cats & kittens. A retired gal from Oak Brook stopped by looking for a kitty companion, and we agreed that Ruby may be a good match for her. She completed an application and follow-up is underway.

A pre-approved adopter who is interested in Lawrence and Portillo or one of Diane's other foster kitties also stopped by to meet Lawrence. He, of course, won her heart, but since he really needs a kitty companion, we are waiting on his adoption until she meets Portillo and Diane's other fosters, so we know he will have a companion when he arrives at his new home. That visit will happen early this week.

Several Feral Fixers volunteers and supporters also stopped by our tent, including Ted and fosters Marjorie & Murray and Connie. Thanks much for stopping in!

Many thanks to Citadel for inviting us to participate in this event and for your generous donations from this event! We are truly partners in animal rescue :-)

Thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible - Bridget, Debbie, Candy, Laurel, and Laura. Special thanks to Candy and Bridget for the photography and videography during the event, to Connie, Stephanie and Ted for your advertising of the event, and to Debbie and Mike for your updates to the Adoptable Cats board and binder, which were critical for this event.

Our next event is Saturday, 6/23, at Pet Supplies Plus at 720 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville, from 11am-3pm. This will be a regular adoption event, and will likely include the start of our 2018 kittens.

Thanks,

Sue
