This Could Happen to Any of Us
If you do your own search on “Wetumpka cat ladies” you will see many articles, editorials, lots of sarcasm, disbelief that this could happen. My takeaway is that when it comes to TNR, everyone needs to communicate before escalation occurs. One thing I have found is that feral cat laws are way down on the list of important information that police officers need in their daily work lives. Education of them can go a long way towards heading off bad situations and they are usually very receptive when someone talks to them reasonably and increases their awareness, but not when they are already on the defensive. I watched the police body cam video, yikes! Just be careful and apparently, keep your car tidy. All charges are being appealed.
End Of Year Approaching Fast!
We’ve received many phone calls and emails from people wanting to neuter cats now. Just cannot do it when it could jeopardize the health of the cat. We’ve advised to provide shelter, food and water and contact us in March/April. As always, we intend to hit the ground running – we will see what 2023 brings! We are still finishing up the kittens on hand and some cats that people trapped without contacting us first, so we are still neutering but have slowed down as much as we can. There is a blizzard expected this Thursday/Friday – we may have to delay that trip!
- On 12/8 DCAS spayed a feral female that was trapped unexpectedly and there were no additional slots available in the next day’s surgeries – thank you DCAS!
- On 12/9 we sent 1 feral female, 9 friendlies with 4 males and 5 females to ADOPT.
- On 12/16 in the trip to ADOPT there were 11 friendlies, 4 males, 7 females. This included 3 kittens from an industrial area that we have now neutered 80 cats/kittens since 2015.
Our totals: 40 for December, 731 for 2022, 13,945 since our start in 2007.

Black Cat Giving Tuesday
We are at 50% of our goal as I write this with 12 more days to go in our year-end fundraiser! There is a donor that wishes to add to the goal to be matched which may bring us to a $12,000 total goal – funds are in the works. This is an aggressive goal with the financial demands that everyone is facing, know that we appreciate what we are asking! Our donors are the best and your donations keep us going! Imagine the numbers of cats roaming the streets in DuPage County if we were not able to continue! We are all making a difference and doing the best we can! We couldn’t do it without YOU!
Upside Of a Blizzard?
