Despite the cold weather, we had a steady flow of pre-approved adopters, new applicants and future potential applicants for most of the day at our adoption event at our building in Lombard on Saturday, 1/29.
Everyone enjoyed meeting the 5 adult cats (Dayna, Nellie, Callie, Frankie, Wesson) and 2 kittens (Noritake, Roscoe) who were the stars of our show.
3 adoptions occurred at the event to pre-approved adopters:
- Noritake - Adopted by a terrific family in Bolingbrook with 3 school-aged children, who interacted with him very gently. He will be their first family cat.
- Dayna - Adopted by a great family in Chicago with 3 calm school-aged children. Dayna seemed to really enjoy the attention and gentle pets from everyone. She will be their first family cat.
- Callie - Adopted by a wonderful family in Woodridge as a companion for their teenage daughter. Callie settled in on her chest at the event! Sadly they had lost a kitten adopted from elsewhere to FIP in December. They also have a 6 yr old male Shih Tzu to keep Callie company.
Frankie also met his future dad, who had submitted an application the morning of the event. The application has been approved and the adoption is planned for Tuesday. Frankie is headed for a great home in Addison with a resident 5 yr old female cat to be his companion.
Another application was received at the event. Follow-up is underway.
In addition, 2 adults and 2 kittens were adopted from their foster homes since our last adoption event on 1/15:
Adults
- Tripoli - Adopted by a cat loving gal in Schaumburg who recently lost a cat. Tripoli will be her work from home buddy and have a 12 yr old resident cat to keep him company.
- Wookins - Adopted by a very nice couple in Aurora with a 1.5 yr old male cat. Introductions are going slowly as the two cats are working things out.
Kittens
- Dahlia - Adopted by a great young couple in Montgomery. She will be their first fur child together.
- NorthStar - Adopted by a terrific gal in a condo in Chicago, which is a great match for NorthStar's mobility limitations. She will have a 3 yr old female cat to keep her company.
This results in 27 adoptions in January - a great start to the year! Having successfully found homes for the majority of kittens we rescued in 2021, our adoption numbers will go down for the next few months. Our focus during this time will be on finding appropriate homes for the remaining kittens, some of whom are rather shy and need to be carefully matched with an adopter, as well as the friendly adult cats we have in our foster homes.
Many thanks to the foster families who brought their kittens to this event (Barb, Cheri, Debra, Diane, Laura, Sarah M). Special thanks to the majority of fosters who were also able to stay during the event to interact with our guests and promote their fosters.
Many more thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible. Connie & Ted - For the excellent promotion of this event, which drew in the attendees. Christy & Maria - for help cleaning the building prior to the event. Sara and Steve - for the efficient set-up. Sara - who had a busy day adoption counseling, creating all of the adoption paperwork and handling the photography during the event as well as helping with the laundry. Trista - for the great job with adoption counseling and interacting with our guests. Steve - for the professional looking cage cards, for covering the front desk and greeting our guests, and for handling the lunch run.
Thanks also to Trista for helping to train our new volunteer, Summer. Summer is a vet tech who will be helping with vaccinations, adoption events and possibly cat/kitten care in our building. Welcome, Summer!
Given the reduced number of available cats & kittens, there are no adoption events currently planned for February. If that changes, we will let you know.
We are targeting an adoption event on Saturday, 3/5, from 11am-3pm at the PetSmart in Wheaton (63 Rice Lake Square). This is part of the next PetSmart National Adoption Week.
Thanks,
Sue
