Yesterday, Thursday, Feral Fixers brought in 35 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. Feral Fixers president Tammy tells us about the day's goings-on...

Debbie and Cathi transported in the AM

Debbie and Heather did pick-up in the PM

35 cats, 10 ferals and 25 friendlies

1 female friendly was already spayed but she has fractured teeth so she'll have another appointment in her future.

15 additional females

19 males

This brings us to 34 for this trip, 67 for August, 636 for the year and 7,914 since we began.

One of the kittens had a bot, or cuterebra in his neck. The bot fly eggs are inhaled or swallowed and then after they hatch, burrow outward in the host's body, ending up in the side, or neck or even worse places. Their appearance on the body is similar to an abscess, the one difference is that the abscess has a breathing hole. Unless you are practiced at removing bots, have a vet do so, they are nasty critters and if you don't get the whole bot it will cause more damage if broken apart, possibly causing an anaphylactic reaction to the host. Usually seen in damp spring months, they are late this year! Gross, but something you need to know about!

Thank you Cathi! Thank you Heather! And (double) Thank You to Debbie for doing double-duty this day!
