Last Thursday, September 25th, Feral Fixers sent in 39 more cats to the PAWS-Chicago Spay/Neuter clinic to be fixed. Feral Fixers president Tammy gives us the details:

Charli & Cathi delivered the cats to PAWS in the AM

Rita & Judy & Dedra picked the cats up from PAWS in the PM

We sent 39 cats in, 23 ferals and 16 friendlies. Two kittens did not have surgery because they had upper respiratory symptoms upon arrival to PAWS. The stress of travel tends to increase any potential for sniffles really fast in some kittens. Unfortunately, one feral appears to have had a reaction to the anesthesia injection and died almost immediately after. There is no way to know in advance if they will have a reaction and initial exam has not shown any reason, we are awaiting necropsy results. PAWS does not take this lightly, that's why they perform necropsies - in order to learn how to prevent this from ever happening again. Due to our high volume with PAWS, it has occurred in several of our cats but has not happened for well over a year. In talking to the caretaker, she did say that a previous cat was found to have a heart condition, so perhaps that is what will be the ultimate reason for the passing of this cat.

So, a total of 36 cats received s/n, 10 males and a whopping 26 females! We shouldn't be so much more excited when we spay females - it takes two! but we are!

With these cats Feral Fixers has neutered 124 cats for September, 942 for the year and 6,918 since our start!

Thank you Charli, Cathi, Rita, Judy and Dedra - super-volunteers all!
