In the current issue of the Naperville Sun, there is an article on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Feral Fixers.

Author Susan Frick Carlman does an accurate job describing who we are, what we do, why we do what we do and how we do it. However, at the end of the story, she presents a section of her story entitled "Environmental Impact". This section of Ms. Carlman's article draws on the recent Smithsonian Institute study (paywalled, unfortunately) and some comments from the McGraw Wildlife Foundation and the Conservation Foundation in Naperville. Their comments focus on the "problem" of feral cats preying on birds.

The Smithsonian article has already been addressed and rebutted by such groups as HSUS, Best Friends, Alley Cat Allies and the Vox Felina Blog. The Smithsonian article is also addressed ("Inflated cat stats panic birders") in the current issue of Animal People. All of these rebuttals claim (and show) that the Smithsonian article authors use outdated statistics and do whatever they can to inflate the environmental dangers presented by outdoor cats.

Anyway, The Naperville Sun Article is, on balance, good publicity for us, has several very good pictures of us at work and is certainly worth the read...
