Just Because You Don’t Hear From Us… Print E-mail

Don’t ever think because you don’t hear what we are doing that we are doing nothing. Between 6/29/17 and 7/13/17 we made 8 trips to 4 different spay/neuter clinics, multiple times in a day or week. We neutered a total of 94 cats in that time, 46 ferals, 48 friendlies, 40 males, 54 females. We ended June with a total for the month of 95 and so far in July we have neutered 69. This brings us to 413 for the year and 9,858 since our beginning. I’ve created a table to show our work – we don’t usually track kittens in this information but thought since the KrazyForKittens Fundraiser is going on now, you should see what those funds would go for – in just two weeks’ time we neutered 45 kittens! Most of these will be adopted thru us, 3 went to Naperville Area Humane Society and the total does not reflect the 4 or so adoptable adults that were neutered and we have up for adoption from this two week time period. Staggering, isn’t it?

We’re trying to do better about telling caretakers no. Its very hard but we’re trying to stick to just DuPage County. But would you be able to say no to a location that was reported to have 20 ferals and 20 kittens? So far that location has netted over 30 ferals and I’ve lost count of the kittens – around 30, I think, and its not done. Yes, it was in Cook County but the TNR group was not going to be able to get there and we had their blessing. 19 females so far and that does not count the kittens we haven’t neutered yet.

Many thanks to Charli, Dedra, Debbie, Laura, Ted, Linda & Mark for transporting!

We’re Always Asking For Donations

Yes, we can only continue to do this work if we have sufficient funds. We have some wonderful, generous people who support us but if we don’t ask, we don’t get. Knowing how much this year’s crop of kittens was going to cost us, two donors have pledged funds to be matched for $2,000 with a goal of a total of $4,000. As you can see from the preceding information, that is roughly two weeks of kitten surgeries when we’re at high volume like now. The fundraiser just started and will go until August 15th and yep, there’ll be a fundraiser after that. And as sure as night follows day, there will be more cats and kittens that need your help. Kittens started later this year, we’re hoping that gets delayed more and more each year but we certainly can’t give up now. Thank you all for your support and please pass on the word about the KrazyForKittens Fundraiser. $10 from 10 people is $100 and can make a big difference. Please also explore any employer matching funds you might have access to – “free” money! Make a donation and post pictures of your cats and have fun with this fundraiser!

As If They Were Our Own Fundraiser Results

We met our goal! Wanted to let you know how some of the cats are doing that benefited from the As If They Were Our Own Fundraiser. Brodie is still with me, has had several bandage changes and hopefully by the next change the largest part of his wound will be closed and he can go without a bandage. Very loving, he reaches out and hugs and climbs onto you to be held. Tolerant, he accepts his cone without protest. What a guy!

Gibbs & Tony are in foster and up for adoption, had a couple of inquiries but the right home has not materialized. Maynard is back home, still a little unsteady on his feet and still requiring treatment for his ear but is really enjoying his life! Brodie, Gibbs and Maynard all would have faced euthanasia if there were no funds to treat them with. Thank you all so much!!!

Our Future

We have a Funds For Our Future account. It is growing steadily but the need for a location is growing more rapidly. We’ve looked at different locations and are exploring some options but darn if what seems to be the right fit doesn’t end up being property with an asking price of over $500,000. Right now we have under $40,000 so you can see the problem. We need to get out of garages and basements, have a real location that volunteers would feel comfortable at, with plenty of parking. There have been $200,000 locations that had parts of what we want but the whole package seems to be wrapped in $500,000+. Think of adoption rooms, rooms to shelter the incoming friendlies before adoption, very quiet space for moms & babies, holding area pre- and post- TNR and maybe, just maybe, our own surgical suite so we don’t have to travel all over to get our surgeries done. And, perhaps a vet could come to us instead of our trekking to them. So many possibilities come back to that same old answer – money. Keep us in mind if someone asks where they should make their charitable donations, who they should name as beneficiary as they plan their own futures, set up automatic monthly donations – we need a stable income to move forward. Feral Fixers is in this for the long haul and it would help so much to do that from our own building!

10K1K 10 Year Celebration!

Everyone thinks we’re asking them to participate in a marathon. Nope, we’re asking them to celebrate the marathon we’ve been in for the past 10 years, by the time of our 10th anniversary we will have neutered over 10,000 cats, adopted out over 1,000 cats! We will have more information closer to October 15th, but please put it on your calendars now. There will be food and lots of cat people. We will have a limited Silent Auction – everyone loves those so much – if you have contacts for a hotel, restaurant, event package, please let us know. Everyone enjoys low-key, stress-free events and that’s what we hope to provide. Come join us and CELEBRATE!
